Hello prospective students! Welcome to English with Ashley!
This summer I’m moving from Madrid to Barcelona and looking for new students!
I've been teaching ESL in Madrid for 3 years. I've taught both adults and children, in both academies and schools. I have experience with all different levels, from absolute beginners to advanced and everything in between.
I have a lifelong passion for languages. I graduated from the University of New Hampshire with degrees in Linguistics and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). In August of 2010 I received the Cambridge certification in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) and have been teaching ever since.
I’m very sad to be leaving my students in Madrid behind, but am also very excited to meet and make new connections with the wonderful people of Barcelona!
I’m looking for students who are motived, driven, and are willing to put in the work. Seeing my students’ progress throughout the years has been so heartwarming and rewarding! I like to see my students leave the class more confident in themselves and their level of English than the class before.
I will structure your classes according to your level and to meet your individual needs. From my experience teaching here in Spain, the biggest problem I've found with previous students is with their conversational skills. That being said, I use a more communicative approach, which basically means just getting you to TALK. Of course, grammar is a very important part of language, but it is not THE most important part. You could memorize a grammar book from front to back and still have problems speaking with fluency. In my classes we do review grammar topics, but focus more on its function in day-to-day language and having you use it and practice it in conversation.
My classes are very fun and dynamic. You’ll learn fast without even realizing it! My madrileños have come a long way, I’m looking forward to seeing what the people of Barcelona are capable of!

¡Este verano me mudo de Madrid a Barcelona y busco alumnos nuevos!
Llevo tres años enseñando inglés en Madrid. He enseñado adultos y niños, en academias y colegios. Tengo experiencia con todos tipos de niveles, desde principiante a avanzados.

Me da mucha pena dejar mis alumnos madrileños, sin embargo, ¡estoy muy emocionada de conocer la gente maravillosa de Barcelona!
Busco alumnos que sean motivados, y que trabajen duro para lograr un nivel más alto del inglés. ¡Viendo el progreso de mis alumnos estos últimos tres años ha sido muy reconfortante y gratificante! Me gusta que mis alumnos salgan de la clase con más ánimo y confianza en si mismos y en su nivel de inglés.
Diseño la clase adaptándola para satisfacer tus necesidades. En mi experiencia enseñando en España, he visto que el problema más frecuente con mis alumnos antiguos ha sido la parte oral, la conversación… Dicho esto, uso un enfoque comunicativo, es decir, hacer que tú HABLES. La gramática es muy importante, por supuesto, pero no es lo MÁS importante. Podrías memorizar el libro de gramática de principio a fin y todavía no hablar con fluidez. En mis clases, revisamos la gramática, pero enfocamos más su uso práctico en la conversación.
Mis clases son divertidas y dinámicas. ¡Aprenderás rápidamente sin darte cuenta de ello! Mis madrileños han mejorado mucho su inglés, ¡ya tengo ganas de conocer la capacidad de la gente de Barcelona!
